#NewMusicMondays: 12/28 – by Blair Cassuto

Hello Monday! I hope you all enjoyed your time with your friends and loved ones, but now, it’s back to business! It’s the last week of the year, let’s make sure to finish it off strong.
Apparently the industry got the #NeverNotWorking memo this week, because we were flooded with releases. Lucky for you, I listened to almost every project that was released over the last week and picked the songs I felt were worthy of making it on the list. There wasn’t enough room or time to put every song on here, so I definitely encourage everyone to go and check out each of these artists full projects.
After finishing his US tour with our boy Travis Scott in Miami, The Weeknd decided he would grace us with two new songs. One a new collaboration with Future, and another, a remix of Jeremiah’s sleeper hit “Pass That.” The usually productive Wiz Khalifa stayed fairly quiet this year, but ended strong, giving us the third installment to Cabin Fever, which was fire.
Tory Lanez also recently finished his US tour. In true #NeverNotWorking style, Lanez as immediately went back into the studio with producer Play Picasso and pushed out – not one – but TWO mixtapes, showcasing the versatility in his style. Our Florida Project Baby, Kodak Black, hit us with a 24-track mixtape entitled Instituion. Our favorite Chi-Town Drill Queen, Katy Got Bands, gave us the third edition of Drillary Clinton, featuring fellow Chicago native, Jeremiah, as well as appearances by Young Dro, Eugene, Plies and Que. Keep doin ya thing, Katie, we see you!
Youngster Key! also provided us with some heat, with his new release, Martin Luther Key, featuring some new rising talent, such as, Keith Ape, Playboi Carti, Johnny Cinco and Juggaman Skipp. Fourtuntately for us, dabbing has gone about as far as it can go at this point, but Rich The Kid had to finish the year with a final ode to the every present dance with his mixtape, Dabbin Forever. Now let’s leave it in 2015, okay?!
Even though he may have become a critically acclaimed television producer with Empire, Timbaland has definitely not slacked off. Releasing King Stays King, Timbo shows off his new artist Tink, as well as the gone but not forgotten, also known as Aaliyah. Speaking on gone but not forgotten, our fave Unc serving time, Gucci Mane, decided he would give us a Christmas present with East Atlanta Santa 2. How does he keep releasing new music from behind bars?! If that’s not boss, I don’t know what is.
Side note, don’t think that I didn’t receive all of your tweets and emails- I definitely did! I was so incredibly swamped with main stream releases this week, that it was borderline impossible to fit everyone on this week’s #NewMusicMondays list. Definitely ontinue to contact me and be sure to be on the look out in the up and coming weeks for the new playlists. Who knows, you just might make the cut!
I know the holidays tend to get everyone of track, but remember, we have a few days left in 2015 to finish the year off strong. Let’s make 2016 the best year yet!!
Until next Monday!
